Donna here to show you a country sign I made. I was looking around the internet for a stencil that said "Welcome" and I came upon one that when stenciled looked like the paint had bled thru underneath. Well……..I can do that without even trying!!! So I got out my letter stencils, paint, brushes and such and started to stencil. Here are the steps I took.
I took 3 pieces of wood, glued them together and then sanded them.

I then took my Americana Decor Chalky finish paint in Refreshing and gave it a coat of paint. I waited for that to dry and then spread petroleum jelly in different areas of the boards that I wanted the next coat of paint to show thru and then gave it a coat of Americana Decor Chalky paint in Smitten.
and then sanded it in the areas that I had put the jelly. so that the color Refreshing showed in different areas. Now comes the part of stenciling. Now remember, I did not want it to look perfect (I can't stencil perfect anyway) and I wanted it to look like it bled underneath the stencil (I can do that part even when I want it to look perfect) So, I stenciled on the word "Welcome".
I then used a boarder stencil to stencil above and below the word Welcome, took some twine, made a bow and glued that on the boards. I then used Helmar Crystal Kote in Matte varnish and gave it a spray (please read the directions and do NOT spray this in your house, take it outside to spray). I then waited 24 hours and gave it another coat of Varnish. And here is the end result…
