Something a little different for this one.
Who wants to make their own modeling clay?
(Well I did.)
Heres how I did it!!!
This project features this Helmar glue! TACKY Craft Glue
This glue is a white glue, which dries strong and clear. It is a multi purpose craft glue which can adhere anything from cardboard, to wood. Most recently I used it for this…….
(the laminate on some of the cupboards in our house had come unstuck……so I re- stuck it with Helmar Tacky Craft Glue)……..but I digress……
Back to the topic at hand.
My recipe looked like this-
1/4 cup of Helmar Tacky Craft Glue
1/3 of a cup of Corn flour (adding up to, another 1/4 of a cup, to get the correct consistency)
1 Tbsp baby oil
1 tsp lemon juice
Mix this altogether in a bowl (it does wash out fine, just do it straight away)
add a little more of the cornflour until it is not at all sticky. You can spread a little cornflour on the bench and knead it. You can also coat your palms in a little baby oil to prevent anything sticking to your hands, but its really not too bad, and washes straight off. (I would remove your rings)
You will end up to a ball of air drying modelling clay closely resembling polymer clay, which is lovely to work with. I kept it in a zip lock bag, breaking of little workable pieces at a time. The amount I made makes enough just to make a few things in one session without trying to keep it for later. I figured it was easy enough to make without having to worry about storing it.
So….as we speak, my clay is air drying nicely on a craft sheet. I have poked holes for the items I would like to be buttons after the clay dried a little, just to make it easier, and I will do it again once they are dry. You can sand any rough edges, or trim off any bits with scissors once the clay is totally dry…..It really is lovely to work with.
I will return in my next post with what I did with these little clay elements, and how I finished them off.
