All Dressed with Faber-Castell

I have a thing for bright yellow letters. When asked, most people will admit, they collect black or brown letters because they are so versatile, while some opt for white as a staple.  I hoard dark yellow and bright yellow stickers. They make me happy, and they seem to work on the majority of my projects. Now if you're a yellow letter sticker lover, you may have noticed there seems to be a worldwide shortage of yellow foam letters ( at least it seems that way). That is when I fell in love with a very special pen…enter the Big Brush Faber-Castell PITT artist pen in dark chrome yellow.

As soon as I covered my cream coloured American Crafts Thickers with it's golden deliciousness, I was happy to have it in my crafting arsenal and knew we were going to be longtime crafting friends. Then I met it's brothers in May Green and Cobalt Turquoise, along with some cousins named Art Grip Aquarelles and Gelatos and discoved what they could do!

I started with a white base of cardstock, and masked the edges to create a wide frame. With a ruler and 2 colours of PITT pen, I drew varying widths of lines to create a custom plaid. I used a combination of May Green and Cobalt Blue PITT pens to stamp some flowers. I just drew the colours directly onto the stamp, mixing as I went.

Next I created colour washes of liquid ink by first rubbing the PITT Pen and Gelato onto plastic trays.  This is just before I added a bit of water and mixed with a brush.

This is the splatter I added by giving the brush a gentle flick over the paper. I used both the wash made with the PITT Pen, as well as the sparkly one made with the Gelato, and also brushed a bit of sparkle onto the stamped flowers. The best part about these pens, is that the pigment is water soluble, but once dry, it won't bleed!

Using the PITT Pen dry, I was able to alter a plain white flower with brush strokes like this:

with a bit of water, I was able to alter roses like this:

In fact, EVERY element you see on the page with the exception of the green patterned paper behind the photos has been customized with Faber-Castell products! The lace and ric-rac trims were coloured using a wash of PITT pen inks, the chipboard star was rubbed with Metallic Blue Gelato, the Resist Canvas was tinted also using a wash of PITT Pen and Gelato. I stamped the felt bird with a Big Brush PITT Pen, once dry, outlined it in the same colour and then misted with water to give a mottled effect. last but not least, I coloured the mason jar stamps and the little frog using a combination of PITT Pens, Art Grip Aquarelles, and Gelato pigments. Not only do the colours work amazingly together, the different mediums do as well! Oh and holding all these textures and colours together was super easy using Helmar's Premium Craft Glue, Zap Dots under my mason jar, and Liquid Scrap Dots to give the canvas tag a bit of lift.
