Altered Embroidery Hoop

Hello Crafty Friends! I'm back on the Helmar Worldwide blog today with a home decor project that I hope you'll like.

Supply List:

Embroidery Hoop: you can purchase one at any craft store or use an old hoop you have on hand. Any size will work but for this project I used a 10 inch hoop.

Pink Craft paint and paintbrush (you can change your paint color to match your papers

Helmar assorted craft glues  (I will list which glues are best to use, in my instructions below)

Any craft papers in your stash or matching your own decor ( I used Mintay "Happy Place" paper collection)

Chipboards that matched my papers, stickers and any other embellishments you'd like

Prima Marketing assorted flowers and Prima Crystals

Lace trim, pink glitter ribbon, Teal Tulle

Vintage brown ink

Metal Die Scalloped Frame (you can use any die shape or style you prefer)

Stickles Diamond Glitter, Clear Sticker Resin Dot

Paint one side of your embroidery hoop with the paint color of your choice. Let dry. Flip over and paint the other side. Let dry. Make sure to paint the inside rim too.

Next take your ribbon and wrap tightly around your hoop. Secure and glue with Helmar Fabric Glue. This glue dries clear and grabs quickly to your surface. Let dry.

Now take your lace trim and glue around the edge of the back of your hoop. I used Helmar Fabric Glue for this step also.

Next choose one of your papers that you like to create your background. Trace lightly with a pencil and cut it out, making sure to cut it slightly larger leaving an edge. Glue this to the back rim of your hoop using Helmar Super-Tac Glue. This glue dries clear and has a flexible bond fast gripping to hold your piece in place.

While this dries, choose the elements from your papers you'd like and fuzzy cut them out. If you don't like fuzzy cutting, you can add sticker images or anything else you'd like. I also chose some chipboard pieces that matched my papers. After you have cut out all your paper pieces, you can ink the edges if you like. It makes them stand out and give a distressed look. Make sure  where you want to place everything before gluing them down.  I used Helmar Acid Free Glue and Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to the back of my fuzzy cut pieces to add some dimension to my project.

Next I chose a diecut frame to add around the base of my chipboard sentiment. I added Helmar Scrap Dots to the back of the piece and glued down in the center of my hoop, to be the focal point of my project.

Helmar Acid Free Glue is perfect for your paper projects and won't wrinkle your paper or yellow over time.

I traced a image from my paper scraps and attached a clear sticker resin dot over the top. I glued it in the middle of one of the frames I fuzzy cut out from one if the journaling cards. Again I used Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to add dimension to my frame.

I glued some paper flowers around my frame using Helmar Fabric Glue to hold them in place. I used the same glue to add some Prima flowers to the bottom right corner if my design.

I scattered some Prima Crystals onto my background and glued them down using Helmar Super-Tac Glue.

I took some Teal colored Tulle and tied it in a bow and glued it to the top of my hoop using Helmar Fabric Glue to secure it.

Lastly I added some Stickles glitter to my butterfly wings and some of the paper flower elements.
