Hi everyone! Thank you for visiting us today. Martice here, sharing a really quick tutorial on how to turn those drab, boring old composition notebooks into something unique and fabulous.
We're gonna incorporate some stenciled monoprints (aka "gelli prints") for the covers and embellish them with metallic paint.
There are so many possibilities! One thing's for sure: you won't catch me with another ugly, outdated composition notebook!
Here's what you'll need:
Composition notebooks
Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste
Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish
scissors
collection of gelli prints
acrylic + metallic paints
paintbrush / foam brush
1// Cut the gelli prints to size. Trace around each cover with a pencil; no need for perfect measuring! We will cut off the paper that hangs over the cover, later.
2// Brush on a coat of Helmar Decoupage & Craft Paste onto the front + back covers of the composition notebook.
3// Paint a color that coordinates with your gelli printed cover, on the insides of each cover. (TIP: try foam brush instead of a regular paint brush, for a subtle, textural look and feel.)
After the paint dries, trim the paper that hangs over the covers.
4// Spray the covers with Helmar Crystal Kote Gloss Varnish. Let dry before handling!
I decoupaged some deli paper that had my graffiti script on it, to the inside covers of one notebook, then painted on some gold metallic paint (see: middle notebook).
Here are the finished covers + an inside view of my altered, mini composition booklets:

See how easy it is to customize your own notebooks? I love putting my own twist on them!
