I was thrilled when Susan M. Brown @"SBARTIST: Painting in the Dark" asked me to alter wooden spoons for her 5th year BLOGIVERSARY…it was a 2-fold mission for me…stretch my creativity and celebrate my retirement as a High School Foods teacher. After a lot of creative thought I decided to do something that I could hang and remind me of how much I love the beach…the sun, the sand, the water, the seashells…my happy place. I want to share today these projects becasue they could not have been created without HELMAR ADHESIVES!
For my 1st project I created a swag from materials & colors you would find on the beach. The spoons were misted and glammed with Tattered Angels products and embellished with sea glass, shells and beach symbols. A canvas flower embellished with sea glass and burlap rope finishes off the decorations. All embellishments were adhered in place with my go-to Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.
Now none of this could have been attached to the base of faux seaweed and coral without the super strength of Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive. I wasn't the least bit worried about putting together the swag and having it stay to together.
For my 2nd project I created a hanger for a beach sign and a seashell wind chime. This wooden spoon was painted and a heavy coat of Tattered Angels Glimmer Glam in Sandy Beach was applied, along with a small macrame hanger I created. After creating the spoon hanger I added a sign that I found on the clearance table for $.99. I removed everything off the back and attached the wind chimes to it using my trusty 450 Quick Dry. The signed was then attached to the back of the sign using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots.
Knowing that I needed to fill in the space between the spoon and the sign, plus get a could seal Liquid Scrap Dots was called for. After letting it cure overnight I then added a small macrame hanger. Here is the finished wind chime.
