Hi there, Lisa here today sharing a "Beach" inspired project.
I decided to go with a Scrapbooking page as I have lots of beach photos to scrap.
Here are the main supplies I used:
I decided to create a background for my page that had a real Beach feel/look to it.
It's open to interpretation of course but for me the soft blues & greens blended with the white squiggles created what looks like water.
So I started with a piece of plain white cardstock (I used Bazzill Marshmallow – as it's good for light mixed media)
I applied the Helmar Acid Free Glue in random squiggles – to represent waves/water. I was aiming for them to look random, rather than perfect.
This glue is fairly quick drying, but it stays tacky initially whilst drying properly. I left it overnight – so that I could safely work straight over it. The idea of the glue is to create a resist to the next applications of ink & sprays.
Gently apply ink on a blending tool, sponge, applicator or dauber in a soft circular motion.
I applied the two colours randomly and didn't worry how well they blended initially. Once I had good coverage I concentrated more on the blending – but again not striving for perfection.
Here you can see how the glue has resisted the ink.
The Distress Inks I have used are the "Oxide" inks they have such a smooth finish and they react really well with water. I used a small water sprayer to apply water pretty much all over – to create further contrast & interest.
I picked up excess water by lightly rolling a small roll of paper towel of the background, this also picks up some of the colour which gives effect of water droplets.
I then used a heat gun to thoroughly dry my project.
I decided I wanted yet more colour – so I added some mist/ink sprays as well. I like to apply them by flicking & tapping my finger on the nozzle tube rather than spray it directly.
Once again I dabbed excess off with paper towel & dried with my heat gun.
I had my photo chosen before I started the background which helped me create the colour palette.
My plan once the background was created was to not go to crazy with the layering and embellishing.
So here is my finished layout, I am really happy with the colours & feel that the photo doesn't get lost – which for me is an important aspect in Scrapbooking.
I added some fairly neutral layers of patterned papers behind the photo, I used the Helmar Acid free glue to do this.
I propped all the layers and the embellishments (leaves) up using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots to give them a 3D effect.
Here is how I applied the Scrap Dots. Two dots on each leaf worked well.
