“Dare To Dream” Canvas With Helmar And May Arts

Trudy Helmar+Post+header

Hi Everyone!

I am a confessed ribbon hoarder and May Arts is my all time favorite! I have TONS of the stuff so… I am in Heaven this week since Helmar and May Arts are teaming up!

I am primarily a card artist and love pretty designer papers, but some of the 12"x12" stacks have patterns that are too big for cards. I try to find other ways to use them. Our Tracy Weinzapfel is known for her amazing canvases and after watching some of her classes, I couldn't help but be inspired to do some of my own. I decided to use one of the larger prints in K&Company's "Abrianna" stack for my background.

Here is the finished piece entitled "Dare to Dream".

I used Helmar Decoupage to adhere the designer paper to the canvas, then sealed over the top with it also.

Then I started embellishing.

I sponged some purple acrylic paint around the edges, then took some alcohol inks and dropped some drops randomly in two of the corners. After the ink dried, I spritzed the drops with alcohol while holding the canvas upright so it would run. After that dried, I added some "Abrianna" design elements in the right hand corners by using Helmar Decoupage.

Then I attached a coordinating butterfly with Helmar Scrap Dots.

Next, I used Helmar Fabric Stiffener and Draping Liquid to stiffen the beautiful May Arts ribbon.

It also worked for attaching it to the canvas.

I embellished the piece with some half pearls, added the "Dare to Dream" rub on, then added additional sentiment with a black calligraphy pen. After everything was dry, I used a final coat of Helmar Decoupage to seal the entire piece…yes even the ribbon!
