Happy Sunday Everyone! Helmar USA DT member, Aymee Gandy, here to share a few projects I created this past week with you. I am currently staying in Alabama visiting my family and as many of you may know, the south got hit with a big snow storm this past week. Believe it or not, my Mom's school (she teaches 5th grade) was out all week due to the weather!!! That is like unheard of in Alabama! Living in Pennsylvania, I am used to the snow, but these southerners were not prepared at all. All the roads were closed and many business shut down. So what are two crafty chicks to do? Why scrap of course! So me and my Mom got down to some serious scrappy business each day. I am so lucky that my Mom is a papercrafter and as big of a Helmar fan as I am! She has her craft room stocked with all sorts of Helmar goodies, which is perfect for me because it is tough to get through airport security with all my Helmar. LOL!
Anyways, as we sat down to scrap on Monday, I discovered a huge pack of blank canvases in my Mom's craft closet. I immediately thought…"Hmmm, how can I use my Helmar to turn these into gifts." I pulled out paints, stencils, papers, vinyl, and Helmar Adhesives and got to work. I was able to create 4 canvases during our week of snow. I sealed each of these with Helmar Antique Acrylic Sealer to protect them. I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry to adhere the ribbon hangers I added to each canvas as well.
First up, I wanted to do a canvas for my own scrappy studio at home. I have never worked with canvas before, so I like to do one for myself first to work out any kinks in the process. I made a few boo boo's and learned from my mistakes on this first one. My theme for this one includes my favorite colors, my initials, and of course, a southernbelle silhouette. I started with a base of green paint. I then made my own stencil and painted a argyle pattern over the green paint. I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to glue all of my papers down. I popped up my butterflies with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots. I embellished each butterfly with gemstones that I adhered with Helmar Gemstone Glue.
Here is an upclose of the detail on the canvas. I cut the butterflies, frame, lettering, and silhouette out using my Cricut, Cricut cartridges, and SCAL (Sure Cuts A Lot) software.
Next, I created this canvas to give to my sister in law for her upcoming birthday. Their last name is 'Fretwell' and I thought this would look nice hanging in her home or on her front door. I adhered the butterflies and gemstones with Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots and Helmar Gemstone Glue.
I cut the letters for their name and the chandelier out using my Cricut and some vinyl.
I cut out a large 'F' to act as a monogram initial in the background out of a font called Brock Script. I then did their full name in a simpler font.
I then wanted to create a canvas for my mother. She always decorates her classroom at school so nice and I thought this canvas would look good for spring. I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to adhere my patterned paper. I used Helmar Gemstone Glue to adhere the gemstones in the center of each flower.
Just an upclose of her name. This font is called 'Lauren Script.' I just loved the Helmar Anitique Acrylic Sealer on these. It sealed in each element on the canvas so well.
Last, I created a very simple canvas for my nephew, Carter. He helped me to create this canvas. He said he wanted his name in the middle with a Lego font and then colorful circles. So that is what we did. I used adhesive vinyl to create each of the elements on this page. I used Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive to adhere my ribbon hanger and sealed it with Helmar Antique Acrylic Sealer.
I hope you have enjoyed these projects and that it will inspire you to pull out those Helmar Adhesives and put them to work on a blank canvas. It is such a great feeling to turn a blank slate into something you can be proud to display in your home or give as a gift!
