Hi Helmar Fans!
I'm so excited to be sharing my project today featuring my favorite products from Helmar and our preferred vendor Faber-Castell. I'll keep the chit chat to a minimum since I have a lot of pictures of my process to share with you. I just have to say that making this canvas was the first time I'd been able to do something creative just for me in about a week and it really helped to turn my winter blues around! Art is therapy for me and if I go too long without doing something creative, I can really see it in my attitude and mood starting to go downhill. Ok, enough said, now to the fun part! I hope you enjoy the photos – Faber-Castell is really a lot of fun to plaly with and they have so many different products! Something for everyone for sure.
Here is my canvas with the background completed and ready to start stamping. I actually picked up this 5×5 canvas at Hobby Lobby and it was already painted a bright red with a ribbon to hang. I couldn't leave at that so I used Helmar Decoupage to attached the paper and tissue tape and then added some more paint and texture with a combination of sprays and Faber-Castell gelatos.
To stamp the reindeer images I used Faber-Castell Big Brush Artist pens. What I learned about this product is that it uses Indian Ink so it's permanent once dry. I thought that would be perfect for what I wanted to stamp because I knew I would continue to be adding layers of paint and mists on top. In between each layer I used my heat tool to speed up the drying process.
I also stamped some images by applying Faber-Castell Gelatos directly to the stamp.
Next, I wanted to add some texture using the Gel Medium. Faber-Castell offers a great starter package with Gel Medium, Glaze Medium and Gesso for all your art journal needs to try them out.
This product is super easy to use, I placed my Crafter's Workshop template down where I wanted it on the canvas and just applied the gel inbetween.
Using an old gift card (you can use chipboard, a credit card, knife, pretty much anything) I spread it through the template where I wanted it.
Now, you can probably mix it with ink or paint to give it color before you apply it, but I decided to add some color using gelatos after it was dried (again, I used my heat tool to speed up the drying process).
I applied some of the gelato directly to my craft mat and using a paintbrush mixed some water into it, then I applied it over the dried gel medium. I also sprayed some mist on it as well for added shimmer.
Next, I applied the grungeboard letters after I painted them with gold gelatos and went around the edges with a Big Brush Pitt pen. I always use Helmar 450 Quick Dry to adhere chipboard, grungeboard, etc.
Finally, I added the banner using Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots for dimension.
Some stickers and doodling complete the canvas! I must mention that anything like stickers or that has adhesive on it already I tend to add Helmar Acid Free Glue for added sticking power!
