My true love gave to me… A DVD wrapped in this:
I made this DVD holder for my Grandma. I am going to make a DVD of 2008 memories for her and place it in here. This is really simple! I took a piece of 6×12 patterned paper and folded it in half. I decorated the front and wrapped ribbon around it to keep it closed.
Adhesives used:
Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive
Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive
Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue
Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots
The backround of the cover:
I used 6×6 square of a Prima transparency for the base of the cover. Since the print was white and the paper I used below is light pink it blended in too much for my taste. So I flocked the back side of the cover. All I had to do was spray the back side of the transparency, let it sit for 5 minutes and cover with the flock.
The Frame:
I sprayed 2 bead necklaces with the Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive making sure I turned them over and got all sides sprayed. I wasn't sure if I'd use the pink or the green beads or both so I just did the the pink AND green figuring I will eventually use whatever is leftover 😉
I let the sprayed necklaces sit for 5 minutes and then smothered them with glitter. I wanted to make sure the glitter was adhered on so I rolled them with my hands covered in glittered and gently wiped off any access glitter. They looked like candy by the time I was done with them!
Attaching the beads to the frame:
I applied the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive around the outside of the transparency and added the beads onto the adhesive. I let this set overnight. The next day I glued it again filling up the gaps to make sure those beads aren't going anywhere! The Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive is great because it dries clear! So I totally gobbed it on without having to worry about it being an eyesore!
This is what I ended up with:
The Blue Flourish:
This was a naked piece of Fancy Pants chipboard that I painted with a Cloud Blue Paint Dabber. I sprayed the chipboard using the Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive again… can you tell I love the spray adhesive? After 5 minutes I sprinkled on a slightly larger glitter type to add some variation. I didn't like the shade of blue I had from this combination. It didn't match the blue ribbon or blue flower. So I sprayed with a few different colors of Glimmer Mist. I still did not get my desired color, so I sprayed it yet again with the Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive and then used the same glitter I used on the beads which is very fine. Luckily, for that poor peice of chipboard that has been through the ringer, it turned out perfect!
The Large Green Flower:
I was on a roll with the Helmar V2 Vellum Adhesive so I decided to ue it again on the Green Prima Flower. I sprayed the flower, let sit for 5 minutes and smothered with the fine glitter.
The Liquid Scrap Dots:
I used the Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots in between the title and title matt, the picture and the picture matt, and also under the 2 smaller flowers. Since the bead frame is chunky, I really needed to vary the dimension of all the different elements. For instance, the gap between the title and it's matt is larger since I needed the right side of the title to overlap the beads. As for the flowers… if I didn't use the Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots the flower centers would have sunk in making the petals stick out unevenly over the beads. So when I used the Helmar Liquid Scrap Dots I played with the amount of dimension a bit pressing the center down until I had it just right. It was really hard to photograph the dimension, but if I didn't use it there would have been a big difference.
The Title:
If you couldn't tell by now I love glitter! I wanted to get the effect of snow on the outter edge of the title. For this, I used the Helmar Craft & Hobby PVA Glue. Since it goes on white I could see exactly where it was. While wet, I sprinkled my glitter on. Since the glitter was more transparent than I wanted I just lightly inked over it with a white shimmer ink pad. I did the same technique to the matt but used a green shimmer ink pad to seperate it from the backround.
Putting It All Together:
To adhere the rest of the items I used the Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive.
