When I received my project inspiration; Relaxation, it reminded me of meditation. And since my husband and I have started practicing Buddhism, I decided to make a prayer flag using Helmars fabric and rhinestone glues.
When it comes to Tibetan prayer flags, they go in a colored order. So I made mine blue, the first color in the order, in hopes I might someday make more.
I started by ironing and cutting my fabric the shape I wanted. The fabric is folded in half:
I opened up my piece of fabric and set a piece of ribbon in the middle:
I folded my piece of fabric over the ribbon:
I sewed around the edges, leaving the ends open. Tibetan prayer flags are meant to eventually fray.
Next, I took some pink fabric, ironed it, and turned it front side down. In Buddhism, the lotus flower means purity and enlightenment so I drew a simple lotus flower symbol:
I cut my pieces out and laid them on my flag to see where I would place them:
I then used Helmars fabric glue on the back side of my pink fabric to place onto my flag:
I then added some sparkly ribbon using the glue and added it to my flag:
I used Helmars rhinestone glue ( which dries clear) to adhere some rhinestones:
I added rhinestones to several places:
My finishing touch was to add some glitter puffy paint around my lotus flower:
Once everything was dry, I was done!
