Create a large colorful tag using Helmar and Faber-Castell along with a fun technique learned from Tim Holtz himself!
Oh, I love Faber-Castell and was so excited to work with Helmar and Faber-Castell. This is Cheryl from Cheryl’s Window and this is another really large tags. The tag is a whoppin’ 8.5 x 4” tag. Many ask what we can do with these tags. This one could go on a scrapbook page as a main element or it could be attached to a canvas, or given as a gift as is. I love the room to really play on these tags.
I really wish you could see this tag in person – or rather feel it. I played with a technique I learned from Tim Holtz himself at Winter CHA. I started by spraying the tag with Ranger Ink Refresher. The Ink Refresher has resins in it so it changes the texture of the paper. I rubbed it in and balled up the tag a few times and let it dry. After drying the paper feels and looks like fabric or a leather type material. So very cool.
After the tag dried, I used various stamps and Faber-Castell Big Brush pens to color and stamp background images. I varied the colors and layered the stamps to get a lot of interest on the background. The Faber-Castell PITT Big Brush pens are so easy to stamp with. I used the big brush end to swipe across the stamp and stamped. I did not use a block for the stamp because I wanted a varied look.
Then I used Faber-Castell Gelatos in blueberry, mango, cotton candy, and metallic mint to scribble my tag and then blend with water and a brush. The Faber-Castell Gelatos are so creamy and blendable. You can even blend them with your fingers, but (1) I wanted a water color effect and (2) I did not want to rub the paper any more.
I embossed a Basically Bare chipboard dress form with Cuttlebug Floral Fantasy folder while my tag was drying. I turned the dress form sideways so that only the body of the dress form was embossed.
Next, I used the Faber-Castell PITT Big Brush pens again to color the dress form. Since it was embossed, I was able to use the side of the brush and hit just the top edges of the embossed design in cadmium yellow. Then I used the tip of the Faber-Castell PITT Big Brush pen in pink madder to color the debossed design.
Now, I was able to use my Helmar 450 Quick Dry Adhesive and Helmar Scrap Dots to add all the embellishments to my tag.
Love how well Helmar and Faber-Castell work together to create beautiful art.
I really hope you make time this week to visit Helmar to see some amazing ways to use Faber-Castell.
